August 24-28, 2019 in Cheyenne, Wyoming: Supporting Students Through the U.S. College Admissions Process

Our Executive Director, Rebecca Bextel, is really looking forward to hosting this group in Cheyenne, Wyoming!

This project is designed to promote study in the United States by offering opportunities for journalists, teachers, policymakers, guidance counselors, and others in the education field to learn more about the U.S. higher education admissions guidance process and more effectively guide young Japanese students to a U.S. study experience.  The program would allow for the participants to engage and/or shadow high school guidance counselors to observe college admission advising, learning about such activities as writing recommendation letters, selecting institutions, and essay writing.

Program Objectives

 The Department of State has outlined the following specific objectives for the project:

  • To learn more about the U.S. higher education admissions guidance process, including non-elite/non-Ivy schools such as community colleges and institutions in suburb areas;
  • To effectively guide young Japanese students to a U.S. study experience;
  • To see the administrative structure of schools and learn best practices;
